Tom Petty Concert Postponed

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will face a one-month delay to their summer 2010 tour plans. But fans holding tickets to the postponed concerts will have to wait significantly longer before seeing the veteran rockers on stage.

The first 10 dates of the upcoming outing have been pushed back about four months due to a delay in release for the band’s new album, “Mojo.” Petty and his famous backing band were slated to launch this season’s tour on May 6 at the Time Warner Cable Music Pavilion in Raleigh, NC, but will now kick off the festivities on June 5 at Oracle Arena in Oakland, CA.

The itinerary was originally scheduled to end with an August 27 event at Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs, NY. The calendar now continues with a September 16 show at St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa, FL, rescheduled from May 9, and closes with an October 2 engagement at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Irvine, CA, rescheduled from June 3.

Currently, nine of the tour’s 10 opening dates have been rescheduled, with full details on the revised itinerary below. A new performance date is still forthcoming for Petty’s previously planned May 12 show at Freedom Hall in Louisville, KY.

Original tickets will be honored on the new concert dates, and ticket sales for all dates will continue as usual. A statement on Petty’s official Web site noted that additional tour dates are also in the works, and onsales for any newly scheduled events will be updated as available.

“Mojo” was originally slated for a spring release, though an exact in-store date was not announced. The newly confirmed release date for the project is June 15.

Petty has booked a bevy of special guests to open on select dates of the upcoming tour, with Joe Cocker booked for the postponed events. While Petty’s site initially noted, “It has not yet been confirmed whether Joe Cocker will still appear as special guest on the rescheduled shows,” it is once again listing Cocker as the supporting act for the dates in question.
